Reversed Backward-Curved Fans in High Performance Densely Packed Control Panels

Let’s give Ecofit’s range of AC reversed backward curved motorised impellers a little bit of a moment right now. These types of fans were initially introduced for the Railway industry many years ago due to their ease of maintenance, enabling rail engineers to due a quick swap of existing units in situe by taking the top off the rail cabs.

Reversed Backward CurvedSo what makes them so great? Firstly, this range of backward curved centrifugal impellers are high efficiency and are often used without the scroll housing shown on many of our modular units such as the RRM, but if necessary, they can be installed in circular, rectangular or scroll shaped housing provided there is sufficient clearance to the side wall. But anyway, we digress, they’re pre-assembled for ease of mounting and electrical connection, with the inlet ring already fitted at the right tolerance saving assembly time, and finger guards are available as an optional extra.

The whole unit is a strong component as the motor support and inlet ring are moulded as a single aluminium casting, improving evenness and helping to strengthen the mounting of the backward curved fans.

They are currently available in six different diameters: 180, 192 and 220mm.

The new reversed backward curved motorised impellers are ideal for applications where space in densely packed areas is an issue i.e. control panels and H&V equipment, whilst keeping good airflow against pressure.

Reversed Backward Curved in Application

A prime example of our reversed backward curved fans in application is shown in the image to the left; our customer who manufacture the highest quality acoustically lined cabinets ideal for refrigeration and CO2 compressors, to be deployed into high thermal load applications. To provide the cooling required we supplied a reversed backward curved option from our ROSENBERG VENDOME – ECOFIT&ETRI PRODUCTS rather than the usual solution of panel filtration.

Why would we use a reversed backward curved offer instead of standard enclosure products?

  • the fan delivers the high airflow at the  pressure required for this application; 600m3/h at 300Pa
  • the fan enables the exhaust filters to last longer
  • it was an easier solution to mount due to its reduced height – standard backward curved mounting options would take up too much of the enclosures precious real estate
  • the higher heat load of the enclosure meant filter fan alone couldn’t effectively dissipate it
  • easy replacement
  • higher output when compared to filter fans
