The newest member of the Axair team, Robert Burns, has proven himself to be quite the runner. The newly appointed South West Area Sales Engineer has run the Blackmore Vale Half Marathon in a very respectable time of 1:23:07 hours.
As a keen runner, Robert has notched up a total of 14 marathons all ran in under three hours with the best time of 2:33:54 and has also run dozens of half marathons with a best time of 1:11:49.
Robert said: “I did my sub 1:25 ‘good for age’ qualifying time for the Bath Half Marathon. I ran the very hilly 21st Blackmore Vale Half today finishing 24th out of 618 overall and winning the V50 class in 1:23:07.
“That is 7 minutes faster than my 1:30:08 in Bristol run 4 months ago which was flat and I have done zero speed work, intervals or hills in training.”
After a break of over 20 years, Rob decided to start running again in July last year to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. He is training hard for the Edinburgh marathon which takes place on 26th May 2013, Edinburgh being the location that Robert’s hero, Ron Hill, former European and World champion won the Commonwealth games in 1970 in a World Record time.
Robert is hoping to finish is a respectable time for his age group, he went onto say: “I think I can break 1:20 before Edinburgh which is my aim if I am going to get near 2:45 for 26.2 miles”
