Rob the Runner Secures Somerset Silver

Back in October last year, we told you how two members of the Axair team had competed in the 2014 Chester Marathon. One of those competitors was our Business Development Manager, Rob Burn. Well, we are proud to say that Rob has been at it again, this time pounding the streets of his hometown, Taunton, in Somerset.

Over 1,000 people competed in the 32nd Taunton Marathon and Half Marathon last Sunday, with Rob tackling the 26.2-mile full marathon route. The South-West event is held in high esteem on the UK athletics scene and has a Gold Grade from the British Association of Road Races. Rob came very close to earing the gold himself with an absolutely tremendous performance; he crossed the line in a very impressive time of 2:46:35. That time earned Rob the title of fastest local competitor and also meant he finished second in the overall marathon.

This represented a fantastic achievement for Rob in his first marathon of the year and he was much happier with his performance in comparison to the ‘nightmare’ of Chester last year. “It was quite warm out there on Sunday, so that week of training in Barbados certainly paid off.” said Rob with a good-humoured smile, in reference to his holiday earlier this month. “I feel fitter than ever and I’m already thinking about the next run, I just need a bigger fridge for all of the fruit and veg I’m getting through.” he added.

Rob’s next race will be the Edinburgh Marathon on May 31st, where he will be running in aid of Breast Cancer UK.
